l experienced such a thing when l was in my twenties, l was working quite hard at the time(65) hours per week) it started with a sharp pain in my chest one night and l convinced myself that l was dying. l saw my doctor who told me that there was nothing fundamentally wrong with me and that l should just slow down!. What happend was that l disbelieved the doctor and for the next few months suffered unbelievable torment,no sleep, couldn't eat and in the end went to my boss and told him that l was unable to carry on.

My boss, (luckily for me had seen this before) he offered me a transfere to a rural area where they were having difficulty with staff. To this day l think he saved my life, my new job involved travelling around the countryside meeting local businessmen and farmers with whom l became friendly and very quickly my life changed as l settled into this new but slow lifestyle, l took up fishing with my new buddies and found that a "handshake" in the countryside meant a lot more than it did in the city.

l stopped thinking about death over the next year or so and found that l was feeling much stonger as a person as l emerged out of the fog that had enveloped me. l am now 64 and a grandfather and mentally sound. My advice to anyone who suffers from this little known condition which was for me a living hell, is to change you'r life, do things that you have never done before,-----it worked for me.
